Rabu (ラブ) is a yellow budgerigar with a Kansai accent. He is a regular customer of Torimi Cafe, which is owned by Kenzaburou. His manner of speech is similar to that of a gangster, which is an oddity in the classy Torimi Cafe. Currently he works as a chauffeur and goes to Torimi to relax before his work. He is said to be a very careful and reliable driver.

He is part of a side story that is available during summer, and appears in the first story of Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star. He is available in the full version of Hatoful Boyfriend: A School of Hope and White Wings, but not as a dateable character.

Early Life

Rabu is from Osaka. Under the name Hosokawa Blaster (細川ブラスター), he used to be the leader of the biker gang Hell's Birdies, and was admired by his peers for his strong ideals.

His real name is Hosokawa Blaster and he's part of the same gang as Azami. Six months before Azami found him again, he left his biker gang Hell's Birdies right after Azami confessed to him. It was because he liked Azami too and panicked when she confessed, he felt an outcast like himself wasn't worthy enough to start a family with her. To make himself worthy, he ran off to set himself on the straight road and earn money to support them.

When Hiyoko intervened in their reunion squabble, they finally made up. Rabu proposed to Azami and she accepts, triggering the happy ending credits scene which Hiyoko burst out objecting to because Hatoful is supposed to be her story of romance, not theirs!

Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star

"The Christmas Thieves Attack!"

In Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star's separate timeline, Azami and Rabu are established to already be lovers at the start of the game.

The episode starts in December, with Rabu and Ryouta at Torimi Cafe. Upon realizing that it's a little past 6PM, Rabu notes that he should be going because Azami will be off her work soon, to which Kenzaburou asks of him to look at the Christmas tree, that Ryouta and him put up earlier, when he'll be leaving the cafe. Rabu agrees to that and gets up and leaves. Ryouta asks Kenzaburou if the older and wiser bird can give him so advice, but before they can have a conversation, a crash from the outside interrupts them.

When Ryouta and Kenzaburou rush outside to see what happened, they see Rabu collapsed on the street with a phone in hand. Ryouta asks if the budgie needs help and if someone from his gang days attacked him, but Rabu denies that, and announces that "they" got him, the Legendary Christmas Thieves. The Christmas tree is gone.

Throughout the episode, Hiyoko investigates along with other characters and tries to chase down the thieves to no avail. Eventually, Ryouta and her return to Torimi Cafe. After failing to find clues around the store, Kenzaburou asks them to look at a photograph that Rabu had sent him just a few minutes ago. It showed the vague silhouette of Miru and Kaku stealing the Christmas tree, back when they attacked him a few days prior.

Physical Description

As a bird, Rabu is a lutino budgerigar, bearing bright yellow plumage and red eyes.

As a human, Rabu is a young-looking man. It's not necessarily seen in drawings, but in his route, Azami exclaims that Rabu has gotten fat off tea and cake since she has last seen him, and his face looks like a fava bean. He has sharp red eyes and wears a pair of spunky sunglasses. His bird form is usually drawn with those glasses as well. His hair is long and straight, tied up into a high ponytail, with long side bangs around his face. He wears a yellow vest on top of a blue jumpsuit, and sports a pair of red sneakers.

Personality and Traits

Rabu appears to be a well-intentioned young bird but is rather clumsy in execution. He is well-mannered enough to worry that he's not good enough for Azami, and sets off to improve himself, but miscommunicates that and accidentally breaks her heart by making her feel rejected. Hiyoko describes him as timid.

It seems he has less of a fighter's spirit than her, because when Ryouta tells him to be careful and wary of gangsters attacking him in the night, Rabu says that if anything happens, he will count on Azami to save him.

Also, he speaks in a Kansai dialect, which in the English version was localized to read like a southern (American) accent.

Rabu is written with the kana ラブ (rabu), being a transliteration of the word "love".

Hosokawa Blaster consists of the characters 細 (hoso), "small, narrow", and 川 (kawa), "river". It's a common Japanese surname.

  • Rabu is one of the several characters whose models originate from the real-life Torimi Cafe. His name stems from his model's, who is named Raburabu.
